Beroun - The construction of a shopping center on the site of the former Tiba textile factory in Beroun is currently not in sight. A new project is likely to be prepared, as the contracts between the investor and the site owner have expired. This was stated by Mayor Šárka Endrlová. Originally, in addition to the shopping center, low-rise residential buildings were supposed to be built in the dilapidated area, and part of the concreted space was to be covered with parks. The city previously rejected the construction twice due to the architectural design of the shopping center and poor traffic connection to the site. However, after adjustments to the project, councilors approved the project for the third time a year and a half ago, and since then they have been waiting for the investor to obtain all necessary building permits. According to Endrlová, the construction is now at a standstill because the previously closed contracts are no longer valid. "We briefly met in May with the understanding that the investor will likely come up with a completely new vision," said Endrlová. Both the investor and the site owner are also leaving room to see if they can obtain the zoning decision needed for further preparations of the project. According to Endrlová, the main interest of the city is to resolve the new traffic connection to the area. "The investor has indicated that it would be against his own interests not to resolve that connection," noted Endrlová. She added that there are problems in the area, especially with dilapidated buildings that should be demolished. The area of the former Tiba textile factory was established in the first half of the 19th century. During the First Republic, over 1,400 people worked there, and products from the factory were sent to all corners of Europe and the USA. During World War II, operations were curtailed and production eventually ceased completely. The plant was nationalized after 1945 and became part of the national enterprise Tiba Dvůr Králové in 1958. However, in the 1970s, the textile industry began to decline, and the area gradually turned into an unused brownfield.
