Olomouc - Protests from the people of Olomouc against the construction of the Hornbach DIY store in the Hodolany district have come to nothing. The building permit for the establishment of the store has already come into legal effect. The Olomouc Hornbach will be built on part of the bus station, and it is expected to be completed by the end of the year. This is reported by today's Olomoucký deník (Deník). Opponents of the store are concerned that noise and traffic congestion will increase around their homes. "Their appeal was rejected and last week the building permit came into legal effect," said Hana Mazurová from the Olomouc regional office. According to her, only a court's opinion can change this. Josef Klement from the company operating the Hornbach DIY stores told Deník that the Olomouc store will have an area of approximately 10,000 square meters. There will be 550 parking spaces around it. "We have owned the land for two years now, and it has been used inefficiently. I assume that the new parking lot will also be used by visitors to Olomouc who will not come to us for shopping," Klement stated. Hornbach will be located on part of the bus station, which is awaiting reconstruction. After the repairs, it will have only seven of the current 13 platforms. As confirmed by Tomáš Vrátný, director of ČSAD Ostrava, a larger part of the bus station is not even in use today. "By March, we want to repair the roofing of the platforms, which will remain in operation. Then the repairs will extend to the dispatch building, including the waiting room," Vrátný specified. All of this is expected to be completed by ČSAD this year. The total cost of reconstructing the bus station is estimated to reach 40 million korunas. Over ten million passengers pass through it annually.
