Vsetín - The Vsetín town hall wants to renovate the Kotovo services and shops building in Rokytnice. The city has obtained a grant of nearly 108 million crowns for the reconstruction of the Masaryk public library, of which 17 million is allocated for the renovation of the library branch in Kotovo. "This inspired us to carry out a complete revitalization of this building," stated Mayor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL) in today's press release from the town hall.
"It wouldn't make sense to repair only a part of the building serving the library and leave the rest as a relic of socialist architecture," the mayor stated. According to him, services for residents of the housing estate and the surrounding area should remain in the building even after the reconstruction. The town hall does not yet know the total costs of the renovation.
The city has 51 rental contracts closed for this building. "In addition to non-residential spaces, it also rents out parking spaces in the underground garage. The building houses, for example, a grocery store, dental offices and a dental laboratory, a hairdressing salon, a branch of the Czech Post, a store, and service for washing machines and dryers, as well as a branch of the Masaryk public library," said spokeswoman Jana Raszková.
The Kotovo services and shops building has been operating in Vsetín since 1981. "For over twenty years, however, it was part of mortgaged property, which the town hall secured against loans to the Wojtoň Kovex and Wojtoň Kovex cutlery companies, which did not repay these loans and went bankrupt. The town hall then litigated over the mortgaged property, which it could not manage. The courts finally relieved Kotovo of the mortgage in 2017," the spokeswoman stated. The building then returned to the city.
