Vsetín, July 17 (ČTK) - The Vsetín municipal office will begin renovating Svobody Square in the coming days. The area will receive a new surface, more greenery, and additional furniture. The appearance of the square was also influenced by local residents, who expressed their opinions during public meetings and on the city's websites. The modifications will cost 2.3 million crowns excluding VAT, the city spokesperson Jana Čadová told ČTK today. The work is expected to be completed in the first half of November. The appearance of the square after its reconstruction in 2010 became the target of criticism from the majority of the city's residents. They particularly disliked the compacted surface. The current city leadership was not satisfied with the square either. Therefore, the city discussed potential changes with the author of the original design, architect Igor Kovačević. The public then commented on the solutions proposed by Kovačević. "The negotiations were not easy, and I am glad that we managed to fulfill the promise that Svobody Square will be greener this year," said Mayor Iveta Táborská. The grassed area will have an area of about 1,500 square meters. The compacted surface will be partially replaced by concrete paving, and part will be grassed. "The paved surface should have sufficient load-bearing capacity so that maintenance vehicles can access it if necessary," Táborská noted. A relaxation zone, a jumping area, and a forum will be added to the square, along with nine benches. "All furniture will be anchored to separate concrete bases and secured with special screws," the mayor stated. The municipal office is prepared to pay for the modifications from its own budget, but has also requested a grant from the Regional Operational Program of Central Moravia. The grant could cover up to 85 percent of the costs. The city leadership will learn the result in the first half of August.
