Břeclav – The building of Vránova Mill near the center of Břeclav will be demolished this year. The previous owner let it fall into disrepair, and the building is so damaged that it needs to be torn down, said Josef Anovčín, the executive director of Construction Company Plus, which recently purchased the building.

"After assessing the current state of the building, it became clear that it is absolutely unusable. Therefore, we plan to completely remove it, but the new structure should maintain the essence of the former mill, and the view from the road should remain practically the same," said Anovčín.

Although the demolition of buildings in a state of emergency should be completed within three to four months, new construction will not start immediately. "We want to give ourselves enough time to prepare a study, so we anticipate this will take up to nine months. Within a year and a half, we expect to have the project documentation, and we believe that with the strength of our construction company, it could be completed within three years," said Jiří Šetina from the design and development department of the construction company.

The building has been deteriorating for decades. The city tried to negotiate with the previous owner about purchasing the old mill, but they could not agree on a price. After reminders, the previous owner fenced off the dilapidated area, but for years it has been a place where homeless people spend the night. The new owner had to deal with them as well.

"People from the social services were onsite and found that two individuals were staying there. The new owner informed them that the buildings are intended for demolition and that they would have to leave. We also offered them help in finding accommodation, but they did not want to take it," said the Deputy Mayor of Břeclav, Jakub Matuška (Young and Restless).

Construction Company Plus currently anticipates building residential buildings with dozens of apartments on the site of the former Vránova Mill. The company intends to collaborate with Mendel University on landscaping around the building. They are also considering a café, as the area around the mill is used by Břeclav residents for walks or bike rides. However, the plan may still evolve over time, the representatives stated. Investments in demolition and the construction of new buildings could reach up to 300 million Czech koruna, but since the project is not yet finalized, this is only a very rough estimate.
