Prague - The government session will return next week after more than two months from Hrzán Palace to Strakova Academy. The cabinet met in Hradčany due to the comprehensive reconstruction of its usual meeting place, where the windows began to be changed at the end of July. The reconstruction of Strakova Academy began last September. It is planned for 30 months and is being carried out while the government office is fully operational.

The cabinet first met at Hrzán Palace on July 31. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) utilized the palace, which has a backup office and once served as an art school, among other things for receiving visitors. He could offer them an unusual view of the capital due to its location.

The government was initially expected to return to Strakova Academy in September. However, the meetings in the alternative spaces ultimately lasted longer. According to an invitation posted on the government website, the cabinet session will move back to the building on Edvard Beneš Embankment next Wednesday.

Strakova Academy, located by the Vltava River, does not provide views of the city like Hrzán Palace does, but it is more spacious. The reconstruction of the building began a year ago and is planned for 30 months. The repair is expected to cost 294.5 million crowns.

During the largest reconstruction of the Strakova Academy building in modern history, the outer shell of the building is being restored, the roof with slate and metal covering is being reconstructed, along with the lightning rod system, stone, stucco, and metal elements, and the fencing of the complex.

The window replacement represents the biggest limitation for government members and officials during the reconstruction. It is expected to reduce the energy intensity of the building, which has more than 700 windows. According to the project, the windows are either refurbished or partially or completely replaced with replicas of the original windows.
