Prague - Straka Academy, which houses the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic, will undergo reconstruction over the next two and a half years. Its façades and roof will be repaired, as well as the fence surrounding the entire complex. The costs of the reconstruction are 294.5 million crowns, and the work begins this month, the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic announced today in a press release.

The contract for the reconstruction of Straka Academy was signed by the office based on an open tender with a consortium of companies Hochtief and Geosan at the end of August. According to the contractual documentation, the reconstruction will involve the repair of plasterwork, coatings, stucco, stone and metal roofing elements, as well as the slate roof. The reconstruction of the complex's fence will include repairs of plasterwork, stone elements, and the entrance gate.

The reconstruction will take place while the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic is in full operation. The consortium has 30 months to complete the work.

Straka Academy was built at the end of the 19th century as a student dormitory. It has served governmental purposes since 1945 and has been the seat of the Czech government since 1993. The last major construction modification of the building was the covering of the internal atrium with a glass roof and the transformation of the space into a new press hall. This reconstruction took place in 2008.
