Znojmo – The previously unused buildings of the former brewery in Znojmo, located in the historic center of the city adjacent to the castle, will be transformed into a wine, cultural, and social center after reconstruction. The city management announced today to reporters a collaboration with Vinařství Lahofer to develop studies for the use of the so-called lager cellars, fermentation cellar, and malt house and to take further steps towards their planned reconstruction.
"Our goal is to successfully complete the reconstruction of the entire area along Hradní Street, which began in 2014, and create a unique wine space here. The objective is to establish a unique wine, cultural, and social center that will add even greater exclusivity and appeal to this place for tourists," said the mayor of Znojmo, Jakub Malačka.
Vinařství Lahofer is to receive the buildings on a long-term lease for 50 years, with a possible forty-year option. "We followed this approach in establishing the Enoteca of Znojmo wines and the Znojmo City Brewery. We were awarded by CzechInvest as an example of good practice in brownfield regeneration. This is the only meaningful form of development for the area, as its complete reconstruction involves hundreds of millions of korunas," added Malačka.
After reconstruction, a complex focused on experiential presentations of winemaking and the entire region should emerge. It will include a modern wine exhibition describing the interactive cultivation and production of wine, as well as local traditions and crafts.
"We want to create a wine experience for visitors in a modern concept. This will enrich their program in our region and simultaneously increase the visitor numbers to local wineries, gastronomy facilities, and tourist attractions," stated the chairman of the board of Vinařství Lahofer, Stanislav Lancouch.
According to the agreement between the city and the winery, the first step will be taken by the Znojmo city hall. It will commission a feasibility study in the form of an urban study from the architectural office Chybík+Kristof Associated Architects at its own expense. This study will examine the optimal possibilities for reconstructing, completing, and converting individual buildings. The city wants to discuss the final project with the public as well.
Chybík+Kristof Associated Architects have already created a project for Vinařství Lahofer for the Enoteca of Znojmo wines, which is already located in the former brewery complex. In addition to the enoteca, part of the buildings is used by the Znojmo City Brewery. The remaining buildings are not yet utilized.
