Vrchlabí (Trutnov area) - In Vrchlabí in the Trutnov area, the construction of a station for firefighters and the medical emergency service was ceremoniously launched today. The construction, costing approximately 58 million crowns, is expected to be completed in October 2015. František Mencl, the director of the fire department in Hradec Králové, said this today to ČTK.

"We have been waiting 12 years for the construction of a fire station in Vrchlabí; all this time we have been trying to secure a suitable location and funding," said Mencl. The new station will be built on the site of the former customs office, and rescuers should be responding to incidents from the new station by the end of 2015. The Královéhradecký Region, which is the founder of the emergency service, will contribute approximately 18 million crowns to the station's construction.
Currently, firefighters in Vrchlabí are located in inadequate facilities near the town center, which forces them to drive out twice from the garage with longer equipment. "We cannot place additional equipment there, which we would need for interventions in the Krkonoš mountains. The social facilities for firefighters are also in poor condition," Mencl explained.
In recent years, firefighters in the Královéhradecký Region have gradually repaired or built new stations in all larger towns. For example, a new fire station for 220 million crowns has been operational in Rychnov nad Kněžnou since April 2011. The funding for the construction of the Rychnov station was provided by the Ministry of Finance through the Ministry of Industry and Trade as part of the investments in the Solnice - Kvasiny industrial zone. Firefighters are also considering the construction of a new station in Jaroměř in the Náchod area and in Hořice in the Jičín area.
