Pilsen - Pilsen will construct a covered southern stand at the football stadium in Štruncovy sady by the end of the year. The spectator capacity will increase by 300 seats, the current capacity is 11,300. The city, as the owner of the stadium, has also agreed that FC Viktoria will build two corner towers next year with its own funds. In the same year, the city will also complete a minor renovation of part of the main stand. Pavel Šindelář, deputy mayor, told ČTK. The five-year reconstruction of the stadium will cost 400 million crowns.
The city will pay 16 million crowns for the southern stand being constructed. In addition to new seats, there will be facilities for television studios, refreshments, and storage. The city hall had the building permit projects processed according to the current UEFA requirement this spring. Part of the stand could not be constructed earlier due to the massive foundation of the lighting mast, which had to be removed first. The original mast was replaced last summer by two new ones.
Next year the city wants to complete the renovation of the main stand. Particularly the balcony towards the park and the replacement of seats in the upper part. According to deputy mayor Martin Zrzavecký, it will no longer be a significant investment.
Next year, two towers will also be built in the corners of the stadium, which FC Viktoria will construct at its own expense. "The club took our building permit. They told me that if everything goes well, they would like to start in the summer, even though they essentially have three years to do it," said Šindelář. The construction of the towers is expected to cost 50 to 60 million crowns. This will be a purely investment of the football club, the city will not contribute a single crown. Pilsen already agreed at the beginning of the year that the club would transfer the towers to them for free after 40 years.
Viktoria will utilize the zoning decision and building permit that the city hall secured earlier. The club will only modify the project for its needs. The towers are primarily intended for the football academy that Viktoria wants to establish. One of the towers plans to include accommodation, a restaurant, and facilities for young footballers.
Originally, the towers were supposed to be built by the city, but in the end, it rejected the investment. The club then promised that if they advanced to the group stage of the Champions League in 2013, they would build both corner towers themselves.
