In the Příbram theater, the reconstruction of the main stage has started

Příbram – The reconstruction of the large stage in the Příbram theater began today. In addition to replacing seats and carpets, the arrangement of the auditorium's height is set to change, along with the painting of the hall and the installation of an induction loop for the hearing impaired. After the renovations, the number of seats in the theater will be reduced, but visitors can expect greater comfort. Everything should be completed by the summer holidays, the city hall spokesperson Eva Švehlová informed CTK.

The work is starting more than a month earlier than originally planned, accelerated by the theater's closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. Performances on the large stage should resume in September. On the small stage, performances are starting this week after the easing of government measures related to the coronavirus.

"The restrictions and regulations related to the coronavirus expedited the start of the large stage reconstruction. Today we handed over the construction site to the contractor, and the work will commence, resulting in a new theater hall," stated Mayor Jan Konvalinka (ANO).

During the forced break, when it was not possible to perform, the theater staff began dismantling old seats, which the theater is now selling. "We are offering our spectators, and of course not only them, seats for the price of 99 crowns each," said director Petr Bednář.

Last year, the Příbram theater saw an increase in visitors. Nearly 66,000 spectators attended performances, approximately 8,000 more than the previous year. More people also visited the cinema, which is part of the Příbram cultural house complex. Over 63,000 spectators did not miss out on screenings, which is 18,000 more than the previous year.

The large building from the late 1950s is not in good condition; according to previous estimates, nearly 175 million crowns would be needed for the overall renovation of the Příbram cultural house, which is beyond the city's capabilities.
