Prague also wants sunbeds...
Prague - More chairs and tables, as well as new sunbeds, will be added to the streets of Prague. The aim is to expand the opportunities for relaxation in the city and to enliven selected public spaces. This was said to reporters today by Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček (for TOP 09) and Director of the Institute of Planning and Development (IPR) Ondřej Boháč. Tables and chairs have been appearing in Prague for three years.

This year, a total of 2,300 chairs and 600 tables will be placed in the city's streets. In the 2018 season, 1,558 chairs and 393 tables were operational at 58 permanent locations. "We are counting on this year's expansion, and in addition, a mobile app will be added to easily locate where the tables and chairs are. We would also like to place them not only in functioning spaces but also to enliven new spaces," said Boháč. They are planned to be placed, for example, at the corner of Americká and Záhřebská streets in Vinohrady or in Vršovice on Finská street.

A new feature compared to previous years will be the sunbeds. These will be located, among other places, on the riverbanks or in parks, where, according to Boháč, park managers have complained in some cases that chairs are sinking into the lawn and damaging it. "One sunbed should cost, including paint, printing, and so on, six thousand crowns," said Boháč. According to him, they will appear, for example, on Štvanice, and considering the approximately 23-hour long meeting of the councilors last week, IPR is considering placing them in Mariánské náměstí.

Last year, nine city districts, many cultural and community centers, as well as individuals participated in the project. The seasonal operation ended in November 2018 in 44 locations. An additional 19 operated throughout the winter, including Janáčkovo nábřeží, Dejvice campus, or Puškinovo náměstí.
