Prague - In Prague's Letná, after several delays, the repair of the historic water tower has begun. The work will last for a year. Jan Čižinský, the mayor of Prague 7 (Prague 7 for itself), told ČTK. The reconstruction will cost approximately 54 million crowns. Part will be paid by the city hall, and additional funds could come from European subsidies.

Workers will repair the entire monument, including the interior and exterior spaces, the annex, and the adjacent area. "After the construction work is completed, we will return the water tower to children and young people for leisure activities and club activities. In the annex of the tower, we will also open a new kindergarten class," the mayor stated.

The former water reservoir will be replaced by a community room. The tea house will continue to operate, and a library will also be available. The building will be used for organizing social events, screenings, exhibitions, or creative workshops. According to the mayor, a periscope will provide views of the adjacent parts of Bubenč, Letná, and Letenské plain.

The reconstruction of the water tower has been in preparation by Prague 7 for several years. The current city hall administration had the original project, which counted on commercial use of the tower, revised.

The water tower in Letná was built from 1887 to 1888. The building was part of the waterworks complex that supplied water to the upper part of Holešovice and Bubenč. It was decommissioned in 1913. Since 1992, the tower has been a protected monument.
