Plzeň – The Directorate of Roads and Highways (ŘSD) will start demolishing a complex of three dilapidated tenement buildings in Jateční Street in Plzeň next month, into which the city previously relocated problematic tenants. The houses in Jateční, located between the brewery and the heat plant, have been vacated for several years, with entrances and windows bricked up and boarded up. They will give way to the construction of the eastern bypass of Plzeň, costing more than ten billion crowns, which is expected to be completed by 2032. This month, the ŘSD will announce a tender for demolition work, said Miroslav Blabol, director of the Plzeň region of the ŘSD, to ČTK today.
"We would like to conclude the contract during November and start, aiming for completion in the spring," he stated. It concerns a contract worth approximately 50 million CZK. Due to the financial demands, the demolition, for which an order has already been issued, is divided into two phases – autumn and spring. It involves three residential buildings, a former kindergarten, and a dumpling factory, thus covering the entire block in the streets of Jateční, Doubravecká, and Duchcovská, all of which have been empty for a long time.
"The last person left here in 2021. Everyone moved to municipal apartments," said Tomáš Soukup (ANO), the mayor of the Plzeň 4 district. The facilities are repeatedly monitored by guards to prevent homeless people, who are often present in the area, from staying there.
According to Blabol, the eastern bypass is divided into two constructions. For the southern part Jasmínová - Jateční, the ŘSD will have a land-use decision in the first half of next year. For the northern phase from Rokycanská to Na Roudné Street (which includes the houses on Jateční), the ŘSD intends to announce a joint project with the Railways Administration this year for the road and rail portions. Documentation will be prepared during the next year. "And in 2026, preparations for the joint land-use and building permit will begin," he stated.
The northern phase of the bypass is expected to cost 4.9 billion CZK excluding VAT. The southern three-kilometer phase, which is more demanding in terms of property rights preparation, will cost approximately 5.5 billion CZK. "The implementation of both constructions is anticipated around 2030," added Blabol.
In the area of the current intersection of Rokycanská - Jateční, an overpass will be constructed according to Soukup, and the underpass beneath the track will be widened. "Above the intersection at U Stavebních strojů, we will build a bridge for a four-lane road, crossing the existing road, while the lower level intersection will remain as it is now," said Blabol. The underpass under the railway towards Jateční Street will need to be widened to accommodate the new four-lane road. The bypass will then continue behind the scrap metal yard along the track. No other buildings will be demolished. "The ŘSD communicates well with us; we can still add, for example, connections for cyclists to the bypass project," added Soukup.
