Plzeň - The Ehrlich Palace, consisting of 53 luxury apartments in the center of Plzeň, designed by architect Bořek Šípek, has been completed by the Prague developmental company Michael Development. Half of the apartments have been sold and more interested parties are now coming forward, said the owner of the building, Michal Štěpánek, to ČTK. The construction, costing nearly 300 million crowns, took four years, nearly two years longer than the investor had planned.
"Today we have successfully inspected the building. After the problems with two previous construction companies, it was very well completed by Prague's TH System. The apartment owners will move in by the end of September," he stated.
Architect, artist, and designer Šípek was the main author of the entire building project. He also contributed to the design of bathrooms and kitchens, and his original work adorns the building's reception. The apartments range in size from 42 to 300 m². There are three levels of garages underneath the building. Prices range from 38,000 to 60,000 crowns per m².
According to Štěpánek, the delays were caused by disputes with neighbors, problems with construction companies, and the complicated foundations of the building near the Radbuza River. The third underground level is the lowest point in Plzeň, he said.
A memorial plaque in the building states that Štěpánek's mother, born Ehrlich, was born in 1921 in Plzeň, and that Šafaříkovy Sady and its surroundings were the places where she spent her youth until 1938. Her entire family and relatives perished in Auschwitz, and she was the only one to escape death. In 1962, she moved to Prague, but remained, in her heart, a Plzeň native and continued to return there with her husband.
