Pardubice - The construction company today began the demolition of the former Bobr restaurant in the Dukla forest park in Pardubice. The structure is being gradually dismantled, which will take about two weeks. Part of the forest is therefore inaccessible. Roman Tureček from PB SCOM company told ČTK. The building has been long abandoned, decayed to such an extent that it has become a ruin and has not found a new use.

"We are dismantling it mechanically with an excavator using a grapple and cleaning it up by hand, sorting. We are working progressively. The excavator has an extended arm, grabs a piece, and sorts the individual materials," Tureček said.

The gradual dismantling of the building is estimated to last about two weeks. "We will be working on the upper part of the building next week, then we will start removing materials. After that, we’ll begin working on the lower part, which consists of the foundations, the little pool that was there. There used to be a sauna. Demolition will continue for another 14 days," Tureček said.

The construction company took over the construction site in the second half of June, fenced off the area, and waited for the gas disconnect, which has not yet happened. "We are waiting for the city to disconnect the gas connection. We have started demolishing parts where there is no gas. We hope they will catch up with us before we start demolishing the last part where the gas is, so that we can have it disconnected and complete the work without interruption," Tureček said.

The restaurant was a popular place, which also had a sauna and a disco. The building has been long abandoned. In 2014, the city completed the revitalization of the forest park, by then Bobr was already empty. Previously, it belonged to TJ Lokomotiva, which did not have the funds for repairs. The sports organization owed the city 3.2 million crowns. The city hall erased the debt in exchange for the property in the forest park, which it took over at the time when the forest was being restored.

There were several ideas on how to use the building, but none of them materialized. Sports clubs were interested, the city hall wanted to place a dog shelter there, and the premises were of interest to an eco-center, a dog hotel, or a photo studio. The problem was with accessibility, as there is no parking in the forest park. A nearby school opposed the dog shelter, as the facility bothered them. Over the years that the building was abandoned, it decayed to such an extent that experts believed modernization might no longer be possible.
