Pardubice – The third phase of residential construction has begun in the area of the former Tesla factory in Pardubice. A developer is constructing a wooden apartment building there, the company Linkcity stated in a press release. In the regional city, this was the first brownfield that the city hall sold to a private investor. The transformation started in 2021, and the first residents began moving in in 2023.

In the district named New Tesla, about 750 people are expected to live upon its full completion. The final phase is a wooden residence, which is still uncommon in the Czech Republic. It will have three floors and 11 apartments.

"Construction from renewable sources is an important step towards a sustainable future and improving the quality of life for residents. Wood is capable of absorbing carbon dioxide emissions, significantly contributing to a reduction in carbon footprint, by up to 20 percent compared to traditional reinforced concrete structures," stated Kristýna Zavrtálková, CEO of Linkcity.

On the 2.5-hectare site, there are already apartment buildings with 126 apartments, residential houses, and a supermarket with access to the area. Everything was developed in the former Tesla complex, which collapsed in the 1990s. At the turn of the millennium, it was bought by the Taiwanese company Foxconn, which later gifted it for one crown to the Pardubice region and built a factory elsewhere.

The region remediated part of the area but had no use for it. After long negotiations, it transferred it to the city. A condition of the transfer was the connection of the location to the main road near the hospital. The city took over the brownfield in 2012. In 2018, the city hall decided to sell it for more than 35 million crowns to Linkcity. Demolition of the old buildings began in 2021. The company aims to complete everything by 2025.
