Ostrava - In Ostrava, a replica of the workspace and study area of architect Jan Kaplický is on display. It was created on the ground floor of the Multifunctional Hall Gong in Dolní Vítkovice during the architectural and design festival Pulse. The president of the Kaplicky Centre Foundation, Eliška Kaplický Fuchsová, stated that the exhibition includes original items that surrounded Kaplický during his work.
According to her, Kaplický was a passionate collector of books. Several of them are part of the exhibition, as well as architectural magazines. "There is also a yellow cushion that Eva Jiřičná personally sewed," said Kaplický.
The founder of the Pulse project, Miloš Štěpař, added that the installation in Ostrava will be on display at least until July, possibly until the end of the year. After that, it will move to the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague. It will be there for another year before traveling around the world. Exhibitions are being discussed in cities like Warsaw and Madrid.
"This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to enter a realistic replica of Jan Kaplický's workspace, containing original preserved elements including a work desk, a complete library with books and magazines, and an iconic sofa. The interior is faithfully inspired by the appearance of Jan Kaplický's workspace in London along with fragments from his family villa in Prague's Ořechovka, such as works by his father, Josef Kaplický," said Štěpař.
Architect Jan Kaplický became famous for designs that are both unmissable and controversial. They often reflected his inspiration from hi-tech architecture or various shapes found in nature. Kaplický, who lived in Britain for many years, realized his most famous buildings there. Unfortunately, he did not get the opportunity to fully showcase his talent in his homeland. He passed away suddenly on January 14, 2009, in Prague, coincidentally on the day his daughter was born. He was 71 years old.
