Olomouc - From a bird's-eye view, residents of Olomouc can today take a look at their city through an unconventional exhibition. The aerial perspective is provided by images from dozens of leading Olomouc photographers, which are displayed in the Hrdinů Square. Photoreporters viewed the city from various angles from high-rise buildings. The exhibition is titled Journey through the Olomouc Towers - through the eyes of photographers. "The public interest has pleasantly surprised us. We originally wanted to hold a small vernissage for a close circle. However, it received a great response, so we decided on a public space," said architect Michal Giacintov today to ČTK, from the organizing civic association Hanácká hratva. The event organizers arranged at the beginning of June for photographers to visit the owners of high-rise buildings in Olomouc; the doors ultimately opened to the public as well, allowing people to see the city from normally inaccessible places. Olomouc photographers were even able to access the highest floors of the buildings, many of whom come from a journalistic background, including current and former ČTK photojournalists Luděk Peřina and Vladislav Galgonek. According to Giacintov, the impetus for the event was a long-term discussion in the city concerning high-rise buildings and especially the intention to build the Šantovka Tower in the vicinity of the historic center of Olomouc. "The view of Olomouc, the panorama, which someone even claimed does not exist, is very valuable to Olomouc. The city is sought after for the preservation of its historical core; it is a gem. From high-rise buildings, people can appreciate that beauty," Giacintov pointed out. Images from Olomouc photographers are printed on canvas and are displayed on special prisms. At Hrdinů Square, people can view Olomouc from above through the photographs until mid-July.
