Moravský Krumlov

Moravský Krumlov - In Moravský Krumlov in the Znojmo region, the project for the renovation of the western wing of the castle is nearing completion. However, when the repairs will take place is a question, because according to Mayor Tomáš Třetina (TOP 09), there is no consensus among the councilors on whether the town should invest more money in the castle, he told ČTK. In recent years, millions have already been invested in repairs. He himself would be glad if the castle could be renovated as soon as possible.

Councilors have different opinions on the matter of repairs regardless of political affiliation. "We want to conclude the debate this year. In my opinion, it is good to repair the western wing as soon as possible and it could be sealed off. The options we have now may not be available in ten years," said Třetina. Municipalities have relatively good opportunities to obtain grants for the repair of monuments, but they must always cover part of the costs themselves. "It's a robust but relevant debate. Some councilors feel that we have already invested a lot in the castle, and now it would be necessary to focus on other projects instead," Třetina said.

The castle, which has been deteriorating since the end of World War II, needs at least basic repairs in the areas where work has not yet begun. According to Třetina, the roof and windows will soon start to be repaired. What could theoretically be in the renovated western wing is not currently a question according to Třetina, because the castle is so large that it cannot be fully utilized. He just wants it to be repaired and preserved for potential future use and for future generations.

The castle has deteriorated since the end of World War II, and its condition did not improve even after 1989. The only exception was a small part where the Slav Epic by Alfons Mucha was exhibited. Larger and more extensive repairs date back to the beginning of the second decade of this century, especially after 2015, when the town became the owner of the castle. It was able to regain the Slav Epic, which Prague, as the owner, took away in 2011, and also renovated other areas. Various exhibitions are located in some of them. Visitors can also go on a tour of the noble rooms and the castle tower. Last year, over 42,000 people saw the Slav Epic, and a total of over 53,000 visitors came to the castle.
