Moravský Krumlov - Moravský Krumlov plans to renovate the southern wing of the castle for 119 million crowns. Most of the costs, nearly 100 million, would be covered by a grant from the European Union. The work is expected to start in 2019 and finish in 2021. This was stated in a press release by the spokeswoman for the region, Monika Brindzáková. The mayor of Moravský Krumlov, Tomáš Třetina (TOP 09), told journalists that a cultural and educational center might be created in the stables in the future.
The castle previously housed the Slav Epic by Alfons Mucha. The city then bought the castle and wants to renovate it. According to Třetina, the work will include the renovation of the southern wing, including the tower or tunnel. "The intention of the castle reconstruction is for Moravský Krumlov to become one of the attractive tourist destinations in Southern Moravia, especially for visitors from Austria. And it is precisely in these projects that the city of Moravský Krumlov and the South Moravian region offer the Liechtenstein family a chance for cooperation. This would build on the tradition of good relations, and Moravský Krumlov could become one of their significant family centers," said Governor Bohumil Šimek.
He, along with Třetina, today presented the project to representatives of the Liechtenstein family, who previously owned the estate. "Back in 2017, we established cooperation with Liechtenstein in the field of culture, on the platform of elementary art schools, as part of the project Children to Children. The establishment of a new center at the castle could provide another impetus for building more concrete relationships with the family that has roots in our city," Třetina said.
The city has other plans as well. "We also discussed the possibility of using the stable for the establishment of a cultural and educational center. It would not only reflect the history of the Liechtenstein family in its entirety during their time in Bohemia and Moravia but we also intend to have an exhibition mapping the 20th century," Třetina stated.
This year marks the 110th anniversary of the death of Prince Rudolf, the last owner of the estate from the Liechtenstein family, who made a significant mark in the history of Moravský Krumlov and Southern Moravia. On this occasion, Maria-Pia Kothbauer-Liechtenstein, a representative of the family, visited Krumlov today.
