Litomyšl – Two new installations have been created in Litomyšl. A lookout tower made from two connected shipping containers is nearing completion, and in Zdeněk Kopal Park, there is a mirror installation titled The Door. The locksmithing work and installation of safety elements are still ongoing at the viewpoint, and a precise opening date has not yet been announced, said Mayor Daniel Brýdl. Both installations are part of the long-term project by the town hall, Goals of the Journey. It aims to offer places around Litomyšl where one can go for a specific purpose.
"A stream of people is already coming to see it. Some say it's beautiful, others call it terrifying and scrap; however, that’s probably a matter of opinion," said Brýdl.
The viewpoint above the former racecourse along the road between Litomyšl and the village of Kornice was designed by architects from Atelier-r. It consists of two connected shipping containers, with the vertically positioned one housing a staircase and offering a view of the surrounding area and the historic center from its highest level.
According to Brýdl, the costs for the lookout tower reached about two million korun, which is less compared to other viewpoints. The authors emphasized the need for sustainable resource management. "Something that served global trade and sometimes unnecessary transportation will now joyfully act locally," stated Brýdl.
Dutch architect Winy Maas designed an installation for the new park in Litomyšl, Zdeněk Kopal, made of mirrored dibond panels measuring ten by four meters with a passage. It reflects the park, the surrounding landscape, the sky, and the city's panorama. The town hall is also discussing with the architect the placement of decals that would prevent birds from crashing into the wall. (The Door in Litomyšl: An artwork or a bird trap?
