Karlovy Vary - In the Karlovy Vary Region, the construction of three transport terminals is set to begin this year. In Sokolov, Cheb, and Mariánské Lázně, buildings will be created that will connect bus and railway stations and improve services for passengers. In total, the region plans to invest up to 290 million crowns into the terminals with the help of EU grants.

The plan builds on the existing project of Czech Railways, Living stations, which anticipates the comprehensive revitalization of approximately 60 station buildings across the country, including those in Karlovy Vary and Mariánské Lázně.
"The aim is to transform the surroundings of the stations in the Karlovy Vary region into a respected part of urban life, where people enjoy coming not only when they travel but also for shopping and other leisure activities," said Andrea Bocková, spokesperson for the regional office.
The terminal in Sokolov is currently the most advanced in preparations, with project documentation including a building permit already completed. "The estimated costs for the construction are 100 million crowns including VAT. A grant application must be submitted in the coming days, with the latest deadline being January 22," Bocková added.
The construction in Sokolov will consist of a bus station, a parking lot for 98 passenger vehicles, modifications to the access and departure roads, and landscaping.
The second partner in the project, the City of Mariánské Lázně, has submitted a request for a building permit and will apply for a grant in the next call, expected in the second half of the year. The estimated costs for the construction are 90 million crowns. A new bus station will also be built in the spa town, the station square will be modified, and roads and greenery will be reconstructed.
The third city where a terminal will be built is Cheb. The terminal already has a zoning decision. "The estimated costs for the construction are 100 million crowns. It will apply for a grant in the next call, just like Mariánské Lázně," Bocková stated.
"A characteristic feature will be a central multifunctional building in the shape of a hexagon. The building will be located in the center of the future transport terminal and will include not only a dispatch center and facilities for employees but also an information center for passengers," described the project spokesperson for the Cheb city hall, Martina Kuželová.
Initially, there were considerations for a terminal in Chodov in the Sokolov region. However, the bus and train stations are located in different places, which did not meet the project requirements for terminals, which aim to consolidate bus, train, and urban transport in one location.
