Karlovy Vary - In the spa forests of Karlovy Vary, the Findlater Pavilion will continue to be one of the most visited places, which has been saved from destruction thanks to renovation. The costs for restoring the historical building from 1801 reached nearly 600,000 crowns. Half of the amount was obtained by the city as a grant from the Program for the Regeneration of Urban Heritage Reserves and Zones, said Jakub Kaválek, spokesperson for the magistrate, to ČTK. To ensure the pavilion corresponded as closely as possible to its original form, craftsmen used the original depictions and iconography as a template. A replica of the historic railing around the building was made based on these. "The roof and facade are completely new, and all the roofing and carpentry elements have been restored. The project also included the drainage of the pavilion and the improvement of the access path. The pavilion is now once again open to the public," noted Kaválek. The Scottish nobleman, Lord Findlater, after whom the pavilion is named, visited Karlovy Vary fourteen times at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Because his stays had a positive effect on his health, he donated significant amounts for the creation of forest promenades. The pavilion acquired a romantic appearance and is one of the few preserved Empire-style buildings in the city. Although it has ceased to be a viewpoint due to the increased vegetation, it still remains a sought-after place for relaxation.
