In H. Králové, they opened a modernized boathouse on the banks of the Orlice

Hradec Králové - Canoeists in Hradec Králové today opened a modernized canoeing base on the banks of the Orlice for almost 21.5 million crowns without VAT. The new facility replaced the inadequate boat house from the 1920s. This was reported to ČTK by representatives of the municipality and the canoeists. The investor was the city of Hradec Králové, which owns the boat house. The canoeing section of TJ Sokol Hradec Králové and some secondary schools utilize the facility. Today's ceremonial opening of the boat house was also attended by representatives of the municipality and canoeist and Olympian Josef Dostál.

"Canoeing and water sports on the Orlice have a huge tradition and popularity in our city. The new building of the boat house on the right bank of the Orlice has replaced the already inadequate century-old structure, whose history could tell a lot about this phenomenon in Hradec Králové," said Mayor Pavlína Springerová (Hradec Democratic Club) to ČTK today.

The boat house is located across the river from the recently opened renovated football stadium. "The building of the boat house offers dignified, modern facilities for the athletes themselves as well as for the storage of boats. In the facility, local swimmers will also find appropriate conditions for their activities, although today's warm weather did not favor them much. I believe that thanks to this project, the next generations of people from Hradec Králové will engage in canoeing and swimming on the Orlice. That is why I am very pleased with the opening of the canoeing boat house," the mayor told ČTK.

The construction of the new boat house began last fall and the construction work was completed in the spring. A two-story building was created, divided into facilities for athletes and a boat storage. The facilities include a club room, sanitary facilities, showers, a gym, and a sauna. The storage can accommodate up to 150 boats.

"The boat house has a steel structure covered with insulating panels, and the living area is also covered with wood. Workers demolished the old boat house in February this year, when the construction work was already underway," said Ondřej Boháč, chairman of TJ Sokol Hradec Králové, to ČTK.

In addition to the canoeists, the boat house will also be used by a group of swimmers and schools for thematic education.
