Duchcov (Teplice district) - Interesting outdoor structures are intended to beautify the landscape damaged by coal mining under the Ore Mountains. A fictitious marina will open to the public on Sunday after the so-called shell parade. The aim of the association Sea of Tranquility is to return nature to people and to showcase a different face of the region traditionally associated with industry and coal mining. Jan Plíšek from the association told ČTK today. The fictitious marina at the Liptická viewpoint, which was created on reclaimed land belonging to the North Bohemian Mines, is supposed to evoke a possible inland sea that could flood all the mined areas in the Podkrušnohoří region. According to the association's plan, several unconventional art objects should be created. "Our concept tries to grasp Podkrušnohoří as a location that has a similar fate due to open-pit mining. The marina is the second structure after the lighthouse in Strupčice that has emerged on some sort of coastline," said Plíšek. The association wants to create promenades leading to individual structures, so that residents can return to places where houses or entire villages used to stand, which had to make way for mining. "It's an effort to re-signify the landscape and create an impression among people that it makes sense to care about their surroundings," added Plíšek. The marina cost approximately 100,000 crowns, of which 70,000 crowns were provided by a grant from the VIA Foundation, and the city of Duchcov also contributed, whose flag will fly at the marina on Sunday. The construction made of spruce wood, with masts anchored by steel cables, involved people primarily from Duchcov, as well as members of Sea of Tranquility and other volunteers. The port aims to attract tourists to Duchcov. The civil association has a ten-year land-use decision for the lightweight wooden structure, with the possibility of extension if the marina withstands weather conditions. The first project of Sea of Tranquility is a lookout tower resembling a lighthouse in Strupčice in the Chomutov region. It was created as a decoration for the documentary film by Martin Ryšavý titled "On the Water," which deals with the transformations of the landscape in Podkrušnohoří. The association already has plans for a third structure, but details are not yet to be revealed.
