In the center of Pec pod Sněžkou, an aquacenter will be built next to the Grand Hotel Hradec

Pec pod Sněžkou - An aquacenter will be built in the center of Pec pod Sněžkou. This is a project of Pec Resort Invest, which built and has been operating the Grand Hotel Hradec in this Krkonoš tourist area for two years. The indoor pool with additional attractions and facilities will be located at the square U kapličky between the Grand Hotel Hradec and the Residence Kovárna. The construction could start as early as 2024, said investor representative Tomáš Perman to ČTK today. The ultimate owner of the majority share in Pec Resort Invest is the family of investor Tomáš Otruba.

"Building a public pool will cost around 150 to 200 million crowns, but it's premature to comment on the total cost of the construction," said Perman.

Last October, an architectural competition was announced, and this February, the proposal from the Prague studio QARTA Architecture won, and a study is currently being processed. "The start of construction will be technically possible no earlier than 2024, with the actual construction lasting at least two years," said Perman.

Between the hotel and the Residence Kovárna, an indoor swimming pool measuring 25 by 8 meters will be constructed, along with a children's pool featuring a slide, a paddling pool, and saunas with a hot tub. The pool will be connected to the planned extension, known as the dependence of the Grand Hotel Hradec. The pool will have a separate entrance for the public. The facility will also include covered parking and shops. According to the investor's representative, the total built area for the hotel and pool will be approximately 2300 square meters.

"A new building will be created, entirely separate from the existing Grand Hotel Hradec. This new building will not only feature a publicly accessible pool, saunas, shops, and parking, but also the dependence of the hotel," Perman told ČTK.

According to him, the investor purchased the land near Hotel Hradec from the town of Pec pod Sněžkou for more than 15 million crowns, based on an estimated value. "The contract includes several other binding conditions under significant penalties in the hundreds of millions. These primarily concern the obligation to build a publicly accessible pool, its long-term operation, and the commitment that no apartment building will be constructed on that site," Perman stated.

The operator of the aquacenter will be Pec Resort Invest. The annual loss from operating the pool before the energy crisis was estimated to be between 2 million and 2.5 million crowns. "Covering this amount will be handled by the operation of the hotel," said Perman.

In recent years, the center of Pec has undergone a transformation; some older buildings have disappeared and new ones, mostly intended for recreation, have taken their place. A transport terminal with a parking garage has also been created, allowing the town hall to reduce parking in the center of the resort.

For example, at parking lot P3, located under the chapel, some parking spaces should remain, while above the chapel, between the toboggan track and the dam, a relaxation zone with benches and greenery will be created. According to the town hall, however, it will still be necessary to increase the capacity of the parking lot, which is located on an asphalt area under the road above the dam.
