Liberec - The Liberec city council approved a change to the zoning plan today for the area known as the hole at Perštýn. This will allow the continuation of a billion-crown project, which is expected to result in a new district in the lower center of the city in a few years.
"For us, this is a necessary and important step. The zoning plan considered the construction of a shopping center, after the change we can build a data center and build apartments," stated councilor Jiří Šolc (Mayors for the Liberec Region), who is involved in the preparation of the private project.
The district is to be created in the place where there is currently a large pit from an unfinished shopping center. In 2015, the Liberec Investment Fund acquired the land and transferred it to its subsidiary LIC. The project has the support of the city hall, and no one else has so far offered any meaningful alternative use for this site. "If things go well, we could have the zoning decision by 2018 and start applying for individual building permits," said Šolc.
According to the study, a data center for the storage of computer data is to be located in the lower part of the four-and-a-half-hectare area. Above it, over 20 administrative and residential buildings with about 350 apartments will be irregularly spread out. The project also counts on garages for approximately 750 cars, a kindergarten, a nursing home, a sports facility, and a park.
Perštýn is among the oldest inhabited parts of the hundred-thousand-strong city, with construction dating back to the 16th century. The new district is to be created on a hill that was previously known as Šibeničák. An archaeological survey is currently being conducted. "So far, nothing interesting has been found," added Šolc.
