Ústí nad Labem

Ústí nad Labem - The Ústí nad Labem council has ordered the cessation of construction work on the revitalization of the Střekov waterfront. The contract for the modification of the waterfront, worth 12.7 million crowns, was signed by the former mayor Vít Mandík (ČSSD). The new city leadership is likely to announce an architectural competition, which will produce a design for this part of the city. Deputy Mayor Martin Hausenblas (PRO!Ústí) said this to reporters today.

The city has been considering the modification of the waterfront to allow residents to better and more frequently utilize it for a long time. Just before the municipal elections, the city hall prepared a revitalization plan for the section between the railway bridge and the E. Beneš bridge. The proposal was authored by architect Zdeněk Šťastný. Mandík signed the contract with the contractor. "We explicitly asked him during the handover of the city hall not to proceed, so that the city would not have to deal with problems arising from the contract," Hausenblas stated. The reaction of Mandík, who resigned from his position as a council member at the first council meeting, could not be ascertained by ČTK.
The construction company has already taken over the construction site. "By our directive, we have halted work on the construction, and councilor Pavel Štěpař (ANO) has been tasked with negotiating with the contractor," said the deputy. According to him, there will likely be some financial costs to the city due to the contract. "It is essential that the proposal for the modification of one of the most important public spaces in Ústí is properly prepared," added Hausenblas.
The council wants to regulate the modification of public spaces in Ústí. According to Hausenblas, the city should gain a uniform color identity and wishes to rid itself of billboards. Currently, there are 5,700 billboards in Ústí, generating approximately 600,000 crowns in advertising revenue from public spaces. The city's chief architect is now tasked with developing a manual that will capture the rules for the modification of public spaces.
