Ústí nad Labem - Jan Evangelista Purkyně University (UJEP) has begun the reconstruction of another part of the campus. Two buildings are set to be utilized by the Faculty of Arts after the completion of repairs costing 262 million crowns since 2014. Today, the university spokesperson Jana Šiková informed ČTK about this. The university has obtained funding from the operational program research and development for innovations, which redistributes funds from the European Union. The buildings, which are to be transformed into a modern educational and research center, previously served the Ústí hospital as tuberculosis and infectious disease departments. The university also plans to acquire new computers and modern presentation and teaching equipment. It is also planning to purchase specialized equipment for the workplace of the Center for Documentation and Digitization of Cultural Heritage. According to the dean of the Faculty of Arts Michaela Hrubá, the project had to pass through tough competition, especially among technically and scientifically oriented projects. "From the assessments of expert evaluators, it emerged that the construction is feasible both from a time perspective and within the proposed financial framework, and that the project has been prepared diligently," the dean added. UJEP is the only university in the Ústí Region, opened on September 28, 1991. It currently consists of seven faculties: the Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies and Management, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Art and Design, the Faculty of Social and Economic Studies, the Faculty of the Environment, and the Institute of Health Studies. It has nearly 1,000 employees and 11,000 students.
