The modifications to Sofia Square in Prague 12 will be more expensive

Prague - The modifications of Sofia Square in Prague 12 will cost approximately 4.5 million crowns excluding VAT. The most expensive part, almost two million crowns excluding VAT, will be the new solution for the stormwater drainage. The total cost of the construction work will thus increase to 42.5 million crowns excluding VAT. Prague 12 will cover the increase from its investment reserve. This follows from the approved resolution of the municipal council. The repair is being carried out by the company Gardenline.

"During the excavation work, it was found that the collector is located one to two meters below the ground level. Therefore, a new stormwater drainage route was proposed to avoid a conflict with the collector and prevent crossing or relocating the hot water pipeline," states the attachment to the council's resolution. According to initial information, the hot water collector was supposed to be three or four meters below the surface level of the square, and the stormwater drainage was to be above it.

The adaptations of Sofia Square have been divided by the city hall into several parts, which also included the reconstruction of park areas. The municipality planned to spend approximately 90 million crowns on the reconstruction. It received a grant from the magistrate for this project, which covered about one-third of the costs. Due to the construction of a new town hall building, the plan for the reconstruction of the square was primarily reduced to the repair of paved areas between the department store Prior and the post office building. This was intended to lower the cost of the square's modifications, previously stated the deputy mayor of Prague 12, Jiří Fremr (ODS), for ČTK.

Sofia Square has not been repaired since the 1980s, except for minor modifications. The newly planned area is intended to be as maintenance-free as possible, suitable for hosting various social events.
