Brno - The Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) is examining the selection of the designer for the second phase of the reconstruction and completion of the historical complex of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno. It has initiated administrative proceedings. Martin Švanda, spokesperson for ÚOHS, said this today. The school stated that the selection procedure was conducted in a standard manner.
The office has been dealing with the tender since the end of November, when the architectural company Pelčák a partner s.r.o. approached it. "The complaint primarily concerns the assessment of qualifications of one of the applicants. The office has requested documentation related to the procurement procedure," Švanda stated.
If ÚOHS finds errors in the tender for the general designer for the reconstruction of the school building, it may for example reinstate a rejected company back into the tender or cancel the selection procedure.
"Masaryk University sent the participants in the proceedings a decision on the selection of the supplier, against which an objection was filed within the statutory time limit, which ÚOHS is now addressing. The contract with the supplier has not yet been signed, so the university is not facing any fines," said university spokesperson Tereza Fojtová. According to her, the value of the tender for project work is approximately 2.5 million crowns.
The school is reconstructing the Faculty of Arts in phases. The first phase has already started and will cost, including equipment, 571 million crowns. Last week, workers returned a time capsule to the wall of the reconstructed faculty building, which they discovered in the spring during construction work. They added new documents to the original documents, which document the reconstruction of the building. The first phase is expected to be completed in the first half of 2015.
When the second phase will begin is still uncertain. After the selection of the designer, the university will look for a contractor for the construction work. The project has secured funding from the Ministry of Education. It is expected to be completed by 2016 at the latest.
