Trutnov – The city of Trutnov officially opened the reconstructed main pedestrian zone on Horská Street this afternoon. The construction costs amounted to 44 million crowns. People have been able to access the pedestrian zone without restrictions since July, said city hall spokesperson Michaela Dědková today to ČTK. The repair of the pedestrian zone was prepared by the thirty-thousand-inhabitant city for four years, and it began last July.
The zone runs from the historic Krakonoš Square to Republic Square. The reconstruction changed the traffic regime on Horská Street, as the city prioritized pedestrians and cyclists. Deliveries to shops are allowed daily during the intervals of 06:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, with only service vehicles weighing less than four tons and cars with permits from the city office allowed to enter the pedestrian zone.
In 2017, the city announced an architectural competition for the redevelopment of the pedestrian zone. Thirteen proposals were submitted, and the project by architects Martin Hájek, Václav Hájek, and Lukáš Kemr won.
