Tanvald (Jablonec region) – Tanvald in the Jizera Mountains has a new atypical viewpoint in the shape of an egg, which is meant to represent an inverted bob. It is located at the site where the bobsled track used to start. The structure, made of metal and laminate, is on a rock at Malý Špičák. The viewpoint was created to support tourism, said Tanvald’s mayor Vyhnálek to ČTK today.
"I believe and know that this will attract tourists, allowing the business sector to benefit a little as well. We need to develop tourism in our area and do things like this that support small entrepreneurs in accommodation or gastronomy," the mayor stated.
According to him, interest in the viewpoint is already significant, despite the restrictions imposed by government anti-coronavirus measures. "A large number of people are visiting it, especially on Saturdays and Sundays," the mayor reported. He mentioned that there have been problems with parking in recent weeks. "We managed to get onto mapy.cz, so that the access road leads through the campsite, where we have prepared parking. Previously, navigation led drivers through Žďár, which was a disaster; there was no parking, and there were tons of cars," he added.
The construction of the viewpoint named Špička cost 3.3 million crowns, with the city receiving a grant of 1.7 million crowns from the Ministry of Regional Development. The viewpoint is located at an altitude of 678 meters above sea level. It can be reached on foot, by bike, or on cross-country skis. It is about 1.3 kilometers from the parking lot at the campsite. Four-meter-high ladders lead to the observation platform at the top. According to the mayor, the view is also nice from the ground; it reflects the surrounding landscape.
The design of the viewpoint was created by a group of architects Mjölk from Liberec; based on their design, in previous years, a lookout tower named Boží vyhlídka was built near Boží Dar in the Karlovy Vary region, a cucumber-shaped lookout tower in Heřmanice in the Liberec region, and the atypical viewpoint Růženka in the Czech Switzerland.
