Tábor - Tábor plans to build a parking garage near the historic center, at the site where a synagogue used to stand. The building should also commemorate the history of this place. The city will announce an architectural competition for the project. The parking garage, with a capacity for two hundred cars, is also expected to have two underground levels. Visually, the construction must not disrupt the view of the historic part of the city where the space is located. This was stated today by Tábor's mayor Štěpán Pavlík (Tábor 2020).

"The construction is a huge challenge for the architect. It must be attractive and also functional. This means dealing with arcs and radii for driving down, and so on. We don't want it to be just a garage; we care about the spiritual aspect of the place," said the mayor.

In addition to two underground floors, the project also includes parking spaces on the ground floor and upper level. The roof could serve as an observation deck with a café, according to the mayor.

Pavlík sees the spiritual dimension as ensuring that the place clearly refers to history. "For example, I'm thinking about visuals on the facade of the building. It could also be a memorial space on the roof, or perhaps Hebrew inscriptions on the walls where cars will park," he stated. Pavlík is still unsure how much the project will cost. He estimates that construction could begin within three to four years.

The new Tábor synagogue from the 19th century was built in the Oriental style. It served for worship until the Second World War, after which it became a warehouse. Representatives of the previous regime had the building demolished in 1977. Now, in its place, there is a parking lot on the empty lot in front of Hotel Dvořák. Since 1992, a memorial plaque has commemorated the synagogue here.
