Jičín - The study for the costly reconstruction of the Masaryk Theater in Jičín will accommodate local theater makers. The documentation will expand with a new design solution for the puppet theater ensemble Srdíčko. The documentation is being prepared by the Prague company MEPRO for 2.29 million crowns excluding VAT and is to be completed within two years. Today, the spokesman for the Jičín town hall, Jan Jireš, informed CTK about this. The city council approved the modifications to the documentation.
"The initiative for the new solution came directly from the representatives of the ensemble. The amendment increases the costs by 24,000 crowns excluding VAT. Because the modifications to the study are, according to the company's statement, fundamental, it was necessary to conclude an amendment to the contract for work on the complete documentation for the theater's reconstruction," Jireš stated.
The city began preparing the project for the reconstruction of the theater at the beginning of this year by selecting a designer. The start of the actual reconstruction will be decided by the council arising from the autumn municipal elections.
Builders are expected to reconstruct the roof, facade, utilities, heating, interiors, or install air conditioning in the theater. The costs for the theater's repair are estimated to be in the tens of millions of crowns, with the main burden of financing resting on the city. The Sokol organization, which remains a minority owner of the property, will also partially contribute to the costs. The city purchased the theater in 2016 from the Sokol Sports Association.
Masaryk Theater, located on the pedestrian zone in Husova Street, is a place of cultural and social life in the sixteen thousand strong Jičín. According to preliminary estimates, the reconstruction of the building built at the end of the 19th century could begin at the earliest at the turn of 2020 and 2021.
