Zlín – The main prizes in the Building of the Year competition for the Zlín Region went to the reconstruction of the Sun Baths in Luhačovice, the reconstruction and extension of the Municipal Library in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, an apartment building in Kroměříž, the development and production headquarters of CROSS Zlín, the intersection of Mostní and Březnická streets in Zlín, and the reconstruction of the Luhačovice Sokolovna. This year, the judges did not award the highest prize in the competition, the Grand Prix of architect Pavel Novák. A record number of 62 buildings registered for this year's 22nd edition. Representatives of the awarded buildings received their awards at the Zlín Congress Center.
The members of the expert committee evaluated the buildings based on the architectural expression of the work, originality of the solution, quality of technological execution, and impact on the environment. "We evaluated a record number of buildings. All were well executed from a construction and technological standpoint, and several of them had exceptional architectural quality,” stated the chairwoman of the expert jury, Dagmar Nová.
"The highest number of buildings was again registered in the category of Buildings for Civic Amenities and newly also in the category of Buildings Outside Zlín Region. An interesting aspect of this year's edition is the large number of family houses and several large complexes of apartment buildings in various towns of the region, which we haven't seen in the competition before. I would also like to highlight the student competition, where a record number of works came together. This year's theme for students from our secondary schools with a construction focus was apartment buildings in Valašské Meziříčí,” Nová added.
The main prize in the category of Buildings for Civic Amenities was awarded to the reconstruction of the Sun Baths in Luhačovice and the reconstruction and extension of the Municipal Library in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. In the category of Houses for Living, the main prize went to the Apartment Building Havlíčkova 1 in Kroměříž. Among family houses, Villa H from Kelč was successful.
In the category of industrial and agricultural buildings, the development and production headquarters of CROSS Zlín stood out, while among transport, engineering, and ecological buildings, the intersection of Mostní and Březnická streets in Zlín was successful. In the category of implementation of development projects for towns and villages, the main prize was awarded to the reconstruction of the Luhačovice Sokolovna. In the category of buildings managed by companies from the region outside the Zlín Region, the main prize went to the construction of the central fire station in Nový Jičín and the revitalization of the church in Dolní Marklovice.
Governor Radim Holiš honored two buildings. "The first is a new apartment building in Uherské Hradiště, which has an interesting technical design, is modern, and is exactly the type of project we need to support housing in our region. To motivate further construction, we have also announced a new grant title for municipalities this year,” said the governor. "The second awarded building is the modern operating rooms at the T. Baťa Regional Hospital in Zlín, which are used for robotic surgeries. It is recognition for the healthcare workers and builders for successfully managing the modernization of the operating rooms during normal operations, and the result is exemplary,” Holiš stated.
