Rokytnice nad Rokytnou (Třebíč region) - The construction of a lookout tower on Mařenka hill in the Třebíč region is set to begin this spring. The surrounding municipalities have been promised three million crowns from European funds for the 31-meter-high tower. If everything goes according to plan, tourists could access the new lookout tower during this year's pre-New Year ascent to Mařenka, said the mayor of Rokytnice nad Rokytnou, Josef Herbrych, today to ČTK.

The project is being prepared by the microregion Podhůří Mařenky, which connects seven municipalities. The selection process for the construction company is currently being finalized, which will determine the final price of the contract. Construction is expected to start as soon as weather conditions allow, Herbrych added.
On Mařenka hill, which stands at an elevation of 711 meters, the highest point in the Třebíč region, there was a lookout tower until the middle of the last century, when it collapsed during a storm. According to witnesses, it was possible to see into Austria on clear days. The surrounding municipalities have been trying to revive the lookout tower for years. The current project plans to build a tower with a metal staircase structure and a stone exterior. At its peak, there will be a covered observation platform.
The microregion, which includes the municipalities of Rokytnice nad Rokytnou, Markvartice, Předín, Štěměchy, Čáslavice, Římov, and Chlístov, will receive a grant from the Regional Operational Program Southeast. This year, 26 projects are expected to be completed in the Vysočina region thanks to support from this program. Additional signage will be added to the bike path from Jihlava through Třebíč to Austria. In Jihlava, the purchase of city buses will be completed, with the EU contributing 26 million crowns. This year, construction workers are also expected to finish a new hospital pavilion in the regional capital of Vysočina, funded by approximately 170 million crowns. More than 40 million crowns will be allocated for the reconstruction of the castle wing in Třebíč.
