Jihlava - A lookout tower will be rebuilt on Mařenka Hill in the Třebíč area. The original tower collapsed in the 1950s. The nearby municipalities will receive three million crowns from the European Regional Operational Program for the new observation structure, which will be 31 meters tall. Other tourism-focused projects from the Vysočina region have also recently been successful in this program, Kateřina Kurková from the South East cohesion region office informed CTK today. On Mařenka, the highest point in the Třebíč area at an altitude of 711 meters, a lookout tower with a metal structure and a stone outer shell will be created. At its top, there will be a covered observation platform. Tourists frequently visit this location already. There are walking and cycling trails around it. An educational trail that currently ends at the summit will be equipped with furniture. According to eyewitnesses, from the lookout tower on Mařenka, one could see all the way to Austria in good weather; the structure collapsed during a severe storm. According to Kurková, there have been several attempts to restore the lookout tower. Funding has now been secured for the microregion of Podhůří Mařenky, which connects the municipalities of Rokytnice nad Rokytnou, Markvartice, Předín, Štěměchy, Čáslavice, Římov, and Chlístov. Preparations for the construction of the new lookout tower have been ongoing since 2003, when the microregion commissioned the project documentation. Among other projects that have recently received funding from the regional operational program are the marking of ski routes in the Žďár area, an educational trail around the Kamenice River in Kamenice nad Lipou, and a sightseeing trail dedicated to Jan Zrzavý in Okrouhlice.
