Prague - The metro station at Národní třída will likely be closed for one and a half years starting this autumn. The reason is the planned construction in this area. The total investment is expected to reach four billion crowns. This was reported today by the Novinky.cz and Právo news servers.
The construction of the new multifunctional Copa Center Národní, as the entire project is called, will restrict transportation for the entire duration of the construction. The B metro station will be closed and trains will only pass through this area. Trams will operate along Národní without restrictions.
"It is premature to talk about specific traffic measures; a building permit has not yet been issued, but we will provide advice on what alternative transport routes to take in due course," said Dopravní podnik spokesperson Ondřej Pečený. "Given the extensive work, partial traffic restrictions are inevitable," stated councilor for urban development Filip Dvořák.
The Copa Center project aims to transform the current unattractive location. In the area between Spálená, Charvátova, Vladislavova, and Purkyňova streets, apartments, offices, and shopping arcades will be constructed. The current entrance to the metro station will also disappear, and in its place, a new modern entrance will be built in the underground level, which will be part of the building complex. The metro vestibule will be relocated underground.
The project is currently in the process of obtaining a building permit. The construction start depends on when the permit is granted.
The investor promises that the construction will have a minimal impact on the residents of the surrounding buildings. The construction site will be secured with a four-meter-high noise barrier. "We will install a truck washing station at the construction site. The surrounding area will be regularly cleaned and watered. The entire area is a heritage reservation, and transportation will be managed in a way that burdens it as little as possible," said Copa Center spokesperson Karin Cifková.
