Cheb - Cheb's plans to start repairing and modernizing the TJ Lokomotiva Cheb stadium this year have fallen through. After the winner of the procurement procedure for the contractor withdrew, the city canceled the contract and postponed the construction to next year. The city had a chance to secure a grant for the reconstruction, Cheb Mayor Petr Navrátil (ČSSD) told reporters today. "We now have to divide the project and separate some parts from it, probably the field, and tender for its processor. However, we will not manage to do that before March. We would like to release at least some money for the field from this year's budget and continue next year and request the grant again," said Navrátil.
The total costs for the first phase, which was supposed to start this year, were around 60 million crowns. In the competition, the price dropped to about 46 million. However, the winner of the competition ultimately did not sign the contract.
The city acquired the stadium from the sports club as compensation for loans the city had given to the club in previous years. The stadium, along with the sports hall, urgently needs modernization.
The city had a preliminary promise of a 14.5 million crown grant from the state for the reconstruction. They also want to apply for a contribution next year.
