Liberec – The competition for the completion of the facilities for the city’s Forest Swimming Pool will have to be repeated by Liberec. The first time, no one showed interest in this contract worth more than five million. This was reported to ČTK by Deputy Mayor Jiří Janďourek.
According to him, the city will now consider whether to adjust the tender conditions before announcing the competition again, in order to make the contract more attractive for companies. "We will certainly try to select a construction contractor in the shortest possible time allowed by law, so that work can start in the autumn," added the deputy mayor.
The goal is to complete the construction of the facilities before the next summer season. The swimming pool area will see the addition of a building with a bistro, sauna, changing rooms, toilets, and service facilities, as well as a wooden rest staircase, a sand playground for beach volleyball, wooden piers for relaxation, and bike racks.
The outdoor swimming pool at the foot of the Jizera Mountains has a history of over seventy years, and its condition shows that it had fallen into disrepair for many years. It was even out of operation from 2001 to 2018. The city hall allocated 7.5 million crowns six years ago for the necessary repairs to make the natural swimming pool functional again.
However, the facilities are still missing. A group of enthusiasts, which has the same name as the Forest Swimming Pool and has been renting the area from the city since 2020, has set the goal of building them. So far, the group has been completing work in smaller stages, depending on how successfully they could gather funds from grants or donations. At the site of the future facilities, there is currently a completed foundation slab with a rough wooden structure, the sewage treatment plant is functional again, and new utilities have been installed. This year, the city hall decided to pay the remaining amount for the construction of the facilities directly from the city budget, also because its restoration received the most votes in all three previous years of the so-called participatory budget of Liberec, in which residents decide on the distribution of funds.
