Sokolov - The city of Sokolov will receive two million crowns for the development of a multimedia educational center project. The city wants to build a new library in the next electoral term. The construction costs are expected to exceed 100 million crowns, local deputy mayor Zdeněk Berka informed journalists today. The grant will be obtained from the development program of northwestern Bohemia. "We do not yet know the exact conditions of the grant, but we should receive one million in advance and the rest later. The total costs for the project development are expected to be just under 3.4 million crowns,” Berka stated. The town hall also has the first estimates of the costs available. "According to the balance sheet, the costs for the construction, including VAT, should be about 103 million crowns, of which the construction itself is to cost 78 million, the rest being related investments such as landscaping and so on,” Berka added. The new building, which will be based on the library, is to be located on the edge of Husovy sady, next to the branch of the hygiene station. "Currently, we are negotiating the design of the building with architect Roman Koucký,” Berka mentioned. The new library is expected to free up space in the Sokolov Castle, where the city library is currently located. The castle is owned by the region and managed by the Sokolov Regional Museum. Freeing up the space would allow for an expansion of the exhibitions.
