Sokolov - The city of Sokolov wants to buy devastated buildings and land around the train station from Czech Railways for 2.3 million crowns. It plans to demolish the former station buildings and prepare the site for further use. The city council still needs to decide on the purchase, Sokolov Mayor Jan Picka (ČSSD) told reporters today.

According to Picka, after the demolition, the city could use the land, for example, to redirect the bike path to Královské Poříčí. "There could also be considerations for building one or two production halls that wouldn't disturb the surroundings. Also, given that we will be choosing a new or returning carrier for our public transport, they could have their facilities there," said Picka.

The demolition of the buildings should also improve the impression of the train station, through which a portion of visitors arrive in the city. Currently, the buildings are sheltering the homeless, and emergency services, security guards, or firefighters have to intervene there more and more frequently.

The city received an offer from Czech Railways for the purchase of the buildings. The original agreement based on the city's estimate was for a price of two million crowns. However, the supervisory board of Czech Railways had the price verified, and the assessment set it at 2.2 million crowns. Then there was also an offer for additional minor properties for about 100,000 crowns, clarified Picka.
