Prague - Special building authorities for constructions subject to integrated permits are unlikely to be established. The Chamber of Deputies approved an amendment to the new building law yesterday in an expedited process. It provides that current building authorities will continue to issue permits for this type of construction. The new building law, which came into effect on January 1, anticipated the establishment of special authorities.

According to the authors of the amendment, the new building authorities would be redundant. They argue that their establishment would not accelerate the administrative process but would only burden regional offices, which lack experience in issuing building permits and would have to hire dozens of new staff due to the new agenda.
According to proponents of the approved amendment, the new regime would also fragment the building process for large projects, which will require an integrated permit for some parts of the construction and not for others. Builders would then have to handle part of the proceedings at regional offices and part at municipal offices.
The Chamber of Deputies yesterday approved the relevant amendment to the building code with a decisive majority of votes. The amendment will now be reviewed by the Senate and the president.
