Respekt Madam - the third performance of Thermal at KVIFF

"The Thermal Hotel in Karlovy Vary is not a communist monster, but one of the most significant works of Czech architecture of the 1960s and 1970s." This is asserted not only by leading architectural historians but especially by the grandchildren of the Machonin couple, Marie and Jan Kordovský, who, within their initiative Respekt Madam, defend the work of their grandparents. Just like the last two years, they are organizing several events during the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this year as well.



Monday, July 3rd

The Thermal Hotel is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year; however, neither the hotel management nor the Karlovy Vary festival is highlighting this event. Therefore, the grandchildren of the architects of Thermal decided to celebrate the hotel’s 40th birthday themselves, in collaboration with the Aeroport club.

Program:

8 PM - 9 PM - Lecture by the Respekt Madam group on the architecture of the Thermal Hotel.

9 PM - 10 PM - Happening - celebration of the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Thermal Hotel

10 PM - Afterparty - DJ Myslivec, FLOEX 



Wednesday, July 5th 

The grandchildren of the Machonin couple, Jan and Marie Kordovský, will lead a guided walk around the Thermal Hotel area. During the walk, they will present the history of Thermal, the reasons why Thermal stands in Vary, why it is so enormous, and what could have stood there instead. They will also explain what should happen to Thermal in the future.
The event starts at 3 PM in front of the post office opposite the Thermal Hotel.
