Uherský Brod (Uherskohradišťsko) - The Town Hall in Uherský Brod has concluded a settlement agreement with the Kočař couple after several years of disputes regarding their land. This long-standing case had burdened the city in the past. Due to the couple's lawsuits, there was a proposal for the execution of municipal property at the turn of 2008 and 2009, making it impossible for the city to manage its property freely at that time. This was reported today by the Zlín edition of Mladá fronta Dnes.

The Kočařs acquired land from the city in 1990 on which they wanted to build a family home. However, because an old building belonging to the city stood on the land, they claimed they could not manage the land freely. In 2007, they filed for a payment order in court for 115,000 crowns, as the city allegedly did not respond to their request to remove the building from their land or pay for the use of the land. At the same time, the couple demanded a much larger sum - 2.86 million crowns as compensation for damages, claiming they suffered a loss because they could not build on their land.
The multi-year dispute was heading to court, but the city eventually reached an agreement with the family. The city will pay them 50,000 crowns for the use of the land. The Christian Democratic mayor Patrik Kunčar described the agreement as beneficial for both parties, as for 50,000 crowns, the city achieved the withdrawal of all lawsuits against it by the couple. "This matter is now closed, and I hope this skeleton in the closet was the last one," he told the newspaper, referring to the previous administration.
The settlement agreement implies that the city leadership acknowledged many points made by the couple, which led to the agreement. The city also admits in the agreement that it had unlawfully used the couple's land, thus unjustly enriching itself.
