Žďár nad Sázavou

ŽĎÁR NAD SÁZAVOU - The councilors of Žďár nad Sázavou want to regenerate the central Republic Square. According to the winning urban study, among other things, its upper part would be transformed into a parking lot, while in another part, a green market would be restored. In the past, only five people participated in public discussions on the changes. Therefore, the council will organize another exhibition of proposals in the library and will launch a new survey, said the mayor of the city, Jaromír Brychta, today to ČTK.

An anonymous conceptual competition for the processing of an urban-architectural competition took place seven years ago. Experts evaluated 17 studies at that time. Eight prizes were awarded, with their authors receiving 270,000 crowns. An exhibition and a survey followed. A processor for the urban study was then selected in a tender. After a public discussion, the city council approved the proposal in April 2004. However, the council did not agree with it. Last year, the designer completed the urban study with comments from the affected authorities and network managers, summarized the mayor.
Once the exhibition of studies for the aquapark, which sparked passionate discussions among the councilors and residents unlike the square, ends in the library, it will be replaced in September by a presentation of proposals for the regeneration of the square.
In a new survey, the town hall will seek citizens' opinions on the appearance and functional solution of the central area. Details, such as the type of paving, type of furniture or greenery, and locations of parking spaces can then be adjusted according to operational and acquisition costs, the mayor specified. The survey will have eight questions regarding the location of parking spaces, the market, or whether citizens want more greenery or benches in the square.
Once the city completes extensive network reconstruction, communication renovation, or the construction of a new housing estate, it would like to be prepared for the modernization of the center, where numerous social events take place.
In the region, Třešť in the Jihlava area has also approached the modernization of the center. There, the council built a relaxation area in an unattractive square for millions from the sale of shares. They limited traffic in some areas, replaced the pavement, lighting, constructed parking spaces, green areas, a sundial, fountains, and installed new benches, trees, and other furniture.
