Karlovy Vary - The area in front of the Alžbětiny lázně (Elizabeth's Baths) in Karlovy Vary and the adjacent Smetanovy sady is set to undergo extensive renewal this year. This will follow the current adjustments to the historical spa building operated by a company owned by the city. The costs for the construction and landscaping around the Alžbětiny lázně will amount to around four million crowns. Jakub Kaválek, the spokesperson for the municipality, said this to ČTK.
In the construction part, the surface of the park paths and the area in front of the baths will be completely replaced. The damaged surface will be replaced with new natural stone arranged in a mosaic of paving. The previously used stone for the park paths will be replaced by sand. "The small cubes with which the paths were paved are heavily damaged. Many have disappeared, others are crumbling. We will return to classic sand, as is the case in other parks in Karlovy Vary," the spokesperson stated.
The city council has already selected the winner of the tender for the reconstruction, which has been awarded to the Karlovy Vary company Tima. It offered the most advantageous price for the execution of the work. "The reconstruction should begin in April and be completed in June of this year. This is a place that is popular with both city visitors and local residents. Therefore, it is essential to improve its condition. The renewal of the area is financed from the city's budget," Kaválek noted.
Approximately 3.5 million crowns were spent on the adjustments to the Alžbětiny lázně building before this season. The spa restaurant and entrance hall have been modernized. This year, the company Alžbětiny lázně plans to continue with further interior adjustments. "The building's construction and technical layout does not meet the current demands of clients in many respects. Therefore, we are gradually trying to create a modern spa operation in this historical building," said the spa director Miloš Vedral.
In the entrance building of Alžbětiny lázně, the client reception has changed after the renovation of the hall. The information reception area is completely new, which will help guests navigate the large building. "Another element to improve services is the electronic queue system for treatments, which is already common in banks or offices. And because we have had problems with pickpocketing in the past, there is also new security equipment and a camera system here," Vedral added.
