Karlovy Vary - Karlovy Vary will allocate 4.9 million CZK for the most urgent repairs of the Elizabeth Baths. This is the first part of the funds for investments in the heritage-protected facility, which is in poor technical condition. According to the proposed budget, another 20 million CZK should be allocated for the city’s Elizabeth Baths next year, Mayor Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová (ANO) told reporters today.

"These financial resources are intended primarily for the restoration of old equipment and for the renewal and reconstruction of the building. First and foremost, it should be the windows, followed by the roof. These funds will be drawn in 2020," the mayor stated.

The city did not provide the money directly to the Elizabeth Baths, but it will be available to the city's department. Any proposed investments from the baths will still need to be approved by the council.

The Elizabeth Baths have been significantly in the red in recent years due to the condition of the building, and the city must annually allocate several million CZK to cover its losses.

The former city leadership prepared a concession contract with a private investor, who was supposed to repair and subsequently operate the building. However, according to the current coalition, the conditions were unfavorable for the city, so the concession procedure was canceled. Now, the city is looking for options to repair and further operate the last municipal baths.
